KiffOS in 5 minutes

KiffOS answers your requests in plain language — by voice or keyboard. Everything runs locally on your Mac. Here's the essentials to get going.

🇫🇷 The app interface is currently in French (English UI coming soon). The commands below are the actual French phrases you type or say — shown here with their meaning.

1. The main screen

At the bottom of the window is the command bar. Type your request and press Enter (or click the arrow). KiffOS answers just above.

On the left of the bar, the agent button has two states:

  • Blue — Conversation. KiffOS chats, writes, explains. It doesn't act on your Mac.
  • Green — Agent mode on. KiffOS can open, launch and manage files — always under your control (sensitive actions ask for confirmation).

2. Talk to KiffOS (dictation)

Hold the ⌥ Option key (right), speak, then release. KiffOS transcribes your voice (100% locally, Whisper) and runs the request. The mic turns green while listening.

On first launch, KiffOS offers to have you read 3 phrases to better recognize your voice. You can redo it later in Settings → Voice calibration.

3. Essential commands

Say it or type it, in plain (French) language. A few that work in the free version — French phrase first, meaning after:

"crée un document"
“create a document” — starts assisted writing (report, letter, note…).
"cherche mes fichiers sur le budget"
“find my files about the budget” — finds files containing those words.
"lis le rapport.pdf"
“read rapport.pdf” — reads the file and uses it to answer you.
"mémorise que je préfère le PDF"
“remember that I prefer PDF” — stores a durable fact, kept local.
"statut"
“status” — system health: AI engine, CPU, runtime.
"aide"
“help” — interactive guide. “palette”/“commandes” list shortcuts.
"ia explique-moi la photosynthèse"
“ai, explain photosynthesis” — ask the AI freely (prefix “ia” outside agent mode).

4. Create a document, step by step

  1. Start: say or type “crée un document”.
  2. Choose the type: “rapport” (report), “lettre” (letter), “note”, “article”…
  3. Give the subject: the title or theme.
  4. Add context (optional): details, or leave empty.
  5. KiffOS writes live: the document streams in, with a preview.
  6. Refine: “ajoute une introduction” (add an intro), “raccourcis le résumé” (shorten the summary)…
  7. Export: say “exporte” — Markdown, PDF or Typst, saved on your Mac.

5. Act on your Mac (agent mode)

Turn on the agent button (it goes green). KiffOS can then:

"ouvre Safari"
“open Safari” — launches an app on your Mac.
"ouvre ~/Documents/contrat.pdf"
“open …/contrat.pdf” — opens a file with the default app.
"supprime ce fichier"
“delete this file” — asks for confirmation, then moves to Trash (reversible).

You stay in control. Every action passes through a built-in permission verifier; sensitive actions (like delete) never run without your explicit confirmation.

6. The connected world (KiffOS Pro)

With a Pro license and your accounts connected in Settings, KiffOS opens up to the outside:

“read mail” — reads your inbox (connect an account in Settings).
"mail répondre"
“reply to mail” — helps you draft and send a reply, step by step.
"mesh"
summary of your social feed (Mastodon / Bluesky).
"allume le salon"
“turn on the living room” — controls your smart-home devices.

7. Activate KiffOS Pro

  1. Get your key: after purchase, the KFOS-… key arrives by email.
  2. Open: Settings → License in the app.
  3. Paste the key: “Paste” button, then “Activate Pro”.
  4. Instant: offline activation (no connection needed); the badge switches to Pro.
